Cathcart Accounts is run by Gordon — an ICB and AAT qualified bookkeeper with a straightforward belief: that small businesses deserve the same steady, professional financial support as larger ones, without the jargon or the overhead.

Gordon founded Cathcart Accounts to fill a gap he kept seeing in Edinburgh: small business owners spending evenings on bookkeeping they didn’t enjoy, making costly mistakes, or paying for accountants when what they actually needed was a good bookkeeper.

Cathcart Accounts works on a no-minimum-term basis, which means you can take one service or all of them, adjust as you grow, and leave without penalty. The aim is a relationship that lasts because it works, not because of a contract.

Gordon holds full ICB and AAT qualifications and is a Xero Certified Partner and Payroll Specialist. That means the work is done right, and done to a standard your accountant can pick up and work with immediately.

01 ICB Member The Institute of Certified Bookkeepers is the world’s largest bookkeeping body. ICB membership means Gordon meets continuous professional development requirements and holds professional indemnity insurance.
03 Xero Certified Partner Xero is the accounting software of choice for Edinburgh’s small business community. Gordon is trained and certified to set it up, migrate data, and run it day-to-day for clients.
02 AAT Qualified The Association of Accounting Technicians is a globally recognised standard. AAT qualification covers financial accounting, management accounting, and the full breadth of bookkeeping practice.
04 Xero Payroll Specialist Payroll is one of the most time-sensitive parts of any business. Gordon’s Xero Payroll certification means PAYE, pensions, and RTI submissions are handled accurately and on time.
05 Based in Edinburgh 40 George Street, Edinburgh’s New Town. The office is where Gordon works from and where client meetings happen when they’re useful.

Most work runs remotely. For clients outside the city, that’s the whole arrangement. For those nearby, in-person is always available.
